So last month, I published a post entitled "Foodie Break #2 or How to Travel Without Really Travelling". I wrote a bit about how you could use a restaurant or food to help you escape a bit and travel back to, or get a taste for, the countries you most want to visit. Earlier this week I published a post abo…

Earlier today I was reading this great post by Dave and Debra at theplanetd.com, India Rail, Train Travel Tips and Tricks. It’s very helpful and chock full of useful information. I was struck by how different is was from the India Rail piece I had been contemplating — the main difference being, I think, that it was very helpful and chock full of useful information.
Now, it’s been a while since I was in India — 10 years, in fact. Apparently things have changed a lot. You can book your train tick…

Here’s the deal: Katie at Tripbase had the very clever idea to post her best 3 travel secrets, then ‘tag’ 5 others to post theirs. Jodi at LegalNomads was kind enough to tag me, so I’m gonna take my best stab at it. I’m arriving late to the party (as usual), so I suspect most of the good ones are already taken. “Pack less”, “bring more money,” and “avoid Nigerian investment opportunities” have probably been covered extensively. But fear not, I will blindly stumble forth – forsaking fear, doubt,…

Hi all,
I just want to give you a brief update on the last 3 blogposts that appeared on the PlanYourSafari blog.
One

This post is a bit late in the coming but in September Randy arranged for an interview with Ziggy Marley. I was lucky enough to get photo rights to the concert and was able to photograph him for the first couple songs. The minute he walked out on stage it was obvious that he was related to the great Bob Marley. With his high cheekbones and long dreads, he looked just like him!
Last year, Ziggy Marley’s performance at the Del Mar Racetrack drew jeers from some concertgoers over the open use of m…

China, one of the oldest civilizations on Earth, is a fantastic nation to visit. Its striking mixture of the modern and the ancient, with skyscrapers being located mere miles from pagodas, and with rice paddies only minutes away from bustling cities, along with its rich history and culture make China one of the top tourist destinations in the world, with a little something for everybody.
Most who embark on a China tour will end up in its capital city, Beijing, which is home of one of the seven…

Lalomanu Beach, Samoa. Four days after the Tsunami. The bodies have been carried away and the funerals are over. But the beach still looks exactly as it did a few hours after the wave struck. Smoking ruins.
Sandals, sunscreen, pillows, cell phones and passports still lie scattered among the splintered…

I am so happy to post, that I have started another blog dedicated to the photos from my travels in Europe and in the states. I have received wonderful and generous feedback regarding the photos and would like to ask for your continued support and critique. I am playing with the idea of doing a small show in Boston to exhibit them, but would like to hear some feedback first.
Thank you all thus far for your comments and support. I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I'm transplanted Canadian who has been working, traveling, and taking photographs in Asia since late 2000. This adventure was supposed to be for a year. I'm into year nine. I love the overseas expat lifestyle.
Right now I'm based in Daejeon, South Korea. I teach university level English for seven months out of the year, and travel for the other five.
I have written, and continue to write a personal blog at multiply.com. The address is

"Oh the weather outside is frightful..." Oh wait, no it's not--well at least not in NYC. For all of you that have the lovely white powder covering your cities & towns, cheers to you. For the rest of us that are lacking this staple of winter, satisfy your snow craving with these videos from the peaks of Japan, to Anchorage to the Tetons. I thought I'd go visit the mysterious stones of Stonehenge with Tracks Travel recently.
Stonehenge was very fascinatingand mysterious.
Included in the tour was a visit to Bath, which is a wonderful old city.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, with a very knowledgeable tour manager!

New Zealand is home to a number of adventure activities – from skydiving, to white water rafting, to jet boating, to bungy jumping. Prior to my move to the Southern Hemisphere, I never seriously considered the act of throwing myself off of a bridge. Seemed foolish. Seemed dangerous. Seemed terrifying.
And it was.
Shortly after arriving in Auckland, I came to realize that it would be wrong not to toss myself off of a bridge. AJ Hackett established the world’s first permanent, commercial bungy j…

Bon Bini Bonaire! Welcome to Bonaire!

Diving mecca and overall adorable Bonaire was a breath of civilized air for us after traveling through barely inhabited tropical paradises for the past month. Kralendjiyk is a quaint and colorful little town that lines the turquoise waterfront. There are 30-…

Even the most experienced travel photographers make a simple mistake. It has nothing to do with the quality of the photos they take, is independent of the quality of their camera, and has little to do with composition. I'm not talking about how to take stunning shots of the local pe…

Anyone who has gone to a carnival knows that the first rule is to have fun and the second one is to admire the cars and costumes in the parades. Venice each year, follows those standards and goes beyond.

Venice Carnival was created in the 16th century, reaching its peak in the 18th, where the nobility…

Many people learned to dream of Africa by watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom or by reading National Geographic. A Tanzania safari is the ideal way to make good on a childhood vow to go on an African adventure. There are several reserves in Tanzania and this article will touch on a few of them.
The Ruaha National Park fits into the dream of going on a rugged safari. Located in central Tanzania, the Ruaha National Park affords the adventurer the opportunity to see and touch ancient baobab tr…
